The Vice President of Safety will provide the vision and leadership to the transit division of Veolia Transportation. In this senior executive role, the chosen candidate will create the vision and provide the leadership to drive a “Safety First” culture where the concern for safety, protection and security permeates every thread of the fabric that makes up Veolia Transportation. Together with our world class safety team, you will be responsible for giving direction in the implementation of programs and procedures in compliance with state and federal regulations and corporate and client policies.
The Vice President of Safety will have the ultimate responsibility for the protection of Veolia Transportation’s work force, the general public and the environment from injury. You will bring your technical knowledge, skill and expertise along with management abilities developed through years of education and practical experience in a public transportation environment.
The chosen Vice President will:
• Set the tone for a culture of ultimate safety throughout every aspect of the organization.
• Work with the regional directors of safety, Regional Vice Presidents, Area Vice Presidents and General Managers to ensure all safety, programs, policies and practices are current and exceed the requirements of clients, contracts and various governmental regulations.
• Act as the subject matter expert in EPA, DOT, FTA, FMSCA, and OSHA compliance and regulations and all safety related matters.
• Ensure that safety technology tools are used and those results are examined, trend data is analyzed and plans are developed to reduce and then prevent future safety incidents.
• Create corporate safety incentive programs and secure data as to the positive results of these programs.
• Develop and sustain a vibrant safety culture throughout the locations that incorporate operations, safety and maintenance departments. Emphasize the team approach and individual responsibility of all employees to exceed corporate safety goals.
• Assist in the evaluation of results of all related audits including those conducted by corporate and client staff and by state and federal regulatory agencies. Provide the vision to use these results to evaluate present programs and the creation of future initiatives.
• Review reports of vehicular, passenger accidents for determination of cause and preventability, identifying potential trends. Using this data, develop cutting edge accident prevention programs to prevent accidents in the future.
• Demonstrate ability to communicate correlation between strong safety results and the financial success of the organization to all regional safety personnel.
• Partner with our Risk Control Department, assist in the identification of risks within Veolia operations and reduce the possibility of accidents.
Review Risk Management Information System (RMIS) reports to identify deficiencies and participate in corrective action.
• Collaborating with the training department, provide input in the creation of world class safety training materials.
• In association with the the RVP’s and Recruiting department, interview regional safety directors when openings occur within the organization.
• Create and grow relationships for productive mutual communication and support with local Safety Directors, Operations Directors, General Managers, and Executive Management.
• Collaborate with the RVP’s and other senior Leadership to secure support for safety programs to be executed in the region.
• Serve as the Veolia Transportation primary corporate representative to the all Federal regulatory agencies as necessary.
• Partner with Veolia HQ, Veolia NA (all divisions) in all functions of safety, including corporate compliance, coordination of safety activities and safety initiatives.
Qualifications:
•Proven Leadership capabilities – must have the ability to positively influence decision makers throughout the organization
•Excellent communication skills at all levels
•Demonstrated experience in preparing a budget.
•Ten years experience in Public Transportation Senior Safety management position supporting diverse business model in a multi-site, multi-state field organization.
• College Diploma or 5 years of Safety management experience.
• Prefer CDS (Certified Director of Safety) and/or CSP (Certified Safety Professional) Designation.
• Strong network and credibility within a variety of Transit Safety organizations
• Must have strong financial, analytical and organizational abilities.
• Ability to travel as necessary throughout the North American locations as well as occasional overseas trips. To fulfill this requirement, you will need a current passport.
• Capability to work in a fast paced environment and adept at supporting multiple team members with changing responsibilities.
• Proficient computer knowledge with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, and Excel) required.
•You must be able to pass a drug test and criminal background check.
