| Job Description: |
Jacobs Denver FasTracks Program is looking to add a System Safety Engineer to their team. This person under the supervision of the FasTracks System Safety Project Manager, will work with engineering staff from RTD, project consultants, and other outside agencies to ensure that system safety elements are properly included and designed in rail and transit development projects. This position will have an active role in engineering design review, safety and security certification, hazard analysis, review of contract submittals and the development and implementation of program plans and contract specifications.
Conducts self in an appropriate manner, working effectively in a diverse work environment.
Participates in the engineering design process of rail and transit development projects especially in regard to safety-related design elements.
Reviews engineering design drawings for assigned projects with respect to compliance with safety related regulations, codes, and requirements including: OSHA, ADA, NFPA, UFC, and local building codes.
Provides written comments and reports regarding engineering design drawings.
Develops and administers safety and security certification program for rail and transit-related projects. This includes the development of a written safety and security certification plan and associated forms, training on the certification process, collection of certification evidence, comprehensive tracking of certifiable elements, and the assembly of the final safety certification document.
Conducts and documents formal hazard analysis of rail and transit systems including preliminary hazard analysis, subsystem hazard analysis, system hazard analysis, and operating hazard analysis.
Conducts formal hazard resolution process and documents this process in the form of written reports.
Monitors contractors for compliance with applicable safety requirements including railroad safety procedures, and Federal Railroad Administration regulations.
Conducts safety training for RTD personnel and contractors.
Prepares technical reports, progress reports, special studies, and cost estimates to support other engineers and RTD staff and consultants.
Experience required:
Bachelors degree in system safety engineering, occupational and industrial safety management, related engineering field, or closely related field is preferred
5 years of project safety experience required
Experience implementing system safety engineering principles.
Experience using computer-aided design (CAD) software.
Project experience on transit systems and FRA-regulated operations is preferred.
Working knowledge of construction worksite safety practices, procedures, and regulations (OSHA).
Working knowledge of conducting safety inspections.
Ability to develop engineering plans and specifications, and resolve system safety design problems.
Working knowledge of system safety engineering concepts and principles in the light rail and transit field (hazard analysis and safety certification).
Demonstrated ability to organize and coordinate projects.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing; to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships.
Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Possess good judgment, problem solving and analytical skills; including the ability to make logical decisions. |
