Position Summary:
Evaluates insured’s risk control environment from an all lines perspective. Receives work assignments from supervisor, conducts surveys, investigates risk exposures and accidents, analyzes risk experience and program needs and makes recommendations, customized plan and follows through to assist insured’s in maintaining risk control programs/processes and sound program implementation activities. Nationwide travel 35% - 40%
Able to develop, coordinate and direct risk control interventions which improve insured’s compliance with risk control standards and policies and general safety standards relative to life safety and other NFPA standards within residential complexes.
Assists in the underwriting process by determining underwriting needs prior to surveys, integrating product knowledge into surveys, and communicating, discussing and advising the underwriters technically and otherwise based on information and conclusions developed during surveys and evaluations. Partner with underwriting to assist in the control of loss exposures and cost to help improve underwriting profit.
Will have specific assigned member responsibilities and tasks as determined by organization need.
Assists in the claims process by gathering information for claim analysis when requested.
Be available to assist supervisor and VP with special projects both departmental and corporate
Familiar with statistical methods for the purpose of evaluating and correlating risk control activities and results.
Provides Risk Control educational services focus on preventive strategies
Position involves servicing more difficult members and requires less supervisory oversight as compared to other risk control positions. Be available to assist Risk Control Associates in the supervisor’s absence.
Position Responsibilities:
Conduct loss analyses, develop risk control programs, and provide customer service and other risk control services to insured’s by means of office work and technical assistance.
Conduct all lines risk evaluation surveys, assistance visits and other risk control services on location at insured ..
Prepare written documentation of insured’s survey visits, assistance visits and follow-up recommendations. Communicate with internal departments regarding risk factors affecting insured policy coverages.
Develop and conduct training programs and other educational courses onsite, via web technology and for HTVN.
Develop articles about various risk control topics for publication in newsletters, the website or other media. Support departmental initiatives such as HARRI award, poster and essay contests and various other activities that are broader in scope.
Endeavor professional and personal development to maintain up-to-date knowledge of risk management trends and issues.
Desirable Training & Experience
Four to six years progressive experience in the risk control or safety.
Degree in safety, engineering, or management related field or the equivalent of education and experience which demonstrates possession of required knowledge, skills and abilities to perform position responsibilities.
Training and experience in insurance coverages or the equivalent of education and experience which demonstrates possession of required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Training and experience in using interpersonal skills.
Experience in a window based computer environment involving the use of word, excel, and powerpoint and use of databases or the willingness to learn and develop the skills within the first 6 months of employment.
Licenses and Certificates
Associate in Risk Management or willingness to obtain within 3 years of employment.
Licensed in various states according to statutory regulations or willingness to obtain following hire.
Connecticut state producers license for property/casualty and life/health.
Valid driver’s license.
